GREAT PICTURE! I have given up on good or great pictures.

This is actually a tough coin to grade. Slightly weak reverse strike with the wood grain plantchet....but a fairly good obverse strike.

I like this as MS63BN. Maybe a 64! on the right day.

Also, what is going on the with the mintmark? Is that a repunch? Small S or Large? What does it look like under a 10x loupe?

acloco, I didn't notice the MM until you pointed it out. Is Can I ask for RPM info in the grading section?

Thanks for the compliment of the pics. I'm smiling ear to ear. I only figured this out this afternoon! Long story, I was missing a couple key steps. Actually, I didn't figure it out, I got the missing pieces from a recent post SsuperDdave responded to, kinda a step by step basic tutorial.
If an old beat up farsighted gentleman like me can do it, you can do it too!

Nice looking coin, MS63 or 64 Brown. Reverse is soft strike or abraded die imo and not wear. Mintmark looks like an RPM.

Oh man noD that is a nice one. I LOVE early Lincolns more than anything else. MS64, but I really don't see any problems with it at all. Sometimes the wood grain hides stuff in pictures. That thing has a GREAT strike!
As for the RPM CC has one listed for 1913 but it doesn't look like the one they have listed, but it's hard to tell. Check it out and see of you see any of the markers for it. http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=eds

Man! This is a great cent! I'm on board too at 64RB. How lustrous is it? Can you talk a little about your lighting and camera setup? I've been working on it too and need to keep learning.

Thanks Rking007. It is a beautiful coin in hand. Still has cartwheel under all the brown. I almost turned it down due to the weak reverse.
I'm no photo expert, or any other type of expert for that matter, but I will post some info about my pics tomorrow in the photo section.

Very nice coin and nice pictures!

BadThad MS-64BN

TPG AU62-63

It has a shot of being RPM 001 - need a good close-up of the MM only. Check coppercoins for yourself and compare.

I'm so glad you've perfected your imaging skills, noD - you've proven to have a pretty sharp cross-denomination eye for nice coins.

Although I'm coming around on Lincoln grading, I still lack the eye for AU/BU determination - especially with early ones - so I'll hang from BadThad's opinion in that regard and suggest this one as a 64 that would easily Green Bean.

Question for the membership at large - is the noticeable deterioration at TRUST and UNUM (and the wheat stalk) a hub issue? Were it die alignment, the date should be affected but isn't. Or were the dates hubbed?

The TRUST is from a Grease Filled Die. This is normally NOT weak, i.e. metal flow issue. With the UNUM, this is a case of non-parallel dies and a M/LDS as evidenced by the right wheat stalk. Normally, UNUM is strong as there are never metal flow issues there. The dates were applied to the working hub, as I recall, for all wheat cents as the master hub was the same from 1909-1915. On another note, the master hub was "sharpened" in 1915 (due to wear) and then completely re-tooled in 1916.

It doesn't match what I see on coppercoins for this date/MM. There is a slight hit on the upper left of the S. Through my 10x loupe I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Its funny you mention the sharpening BadThad because I was just going to comment on how sharp his hair looks compared to other early Wheats like this! The more I look at this coin the more I just love it.
