So last night I went to my local coin club meeting to meet 1 specific person to get his contact information for another friend of mine.
I sat down with him to chat while waiting for the auction to begin. He decided to browse through my binder and check out my coins. He was looking at my IH cents and all of the sudden, he pulls one out and starts examining it with a loupe. He puts it on the table and tells me "that is a $1000 coin right there".
Turns out he noticed a pickup point on my 1888 IH cent. It was in a 2x2 so I wrote "possible 8/7" on it and decided to mess with it when I got home. Well, I just got home from work now and I pulled it out of the 2x2 for proper examination under a lamp and a loupe.
Folks, we have an 1888 8 over 7!
I am glad I decided to meet this guy at the coin club and I'm glad he decided to browse my coins. I never even thought to look at this coin before. I don't even know where I got this particular coin!
Anyway, it is a problem free VG, possibly F coin. I can see the weak "8th feather". I can see a very faint hint of the
Cud which is nearly worn away. I can clearly see the "nub" of the 7 poking out below the last 8. I can even see a tiny nub poking out at the top of the last 8.
