Hi..I have notice that up to 2008 all Canadian quarters were truck the same with "Canada" and the elk...2009 and later quarters had the word "Canada" moved from then on...See pictures below.

The Caribou was changed and shifted.
I'm still looking for a mule.

Good eye and illustration Wert. Great info on the mule DBM. That would be a hard one to notice.

I think DBM was the first to post about it.

If the old style existed on a 2009, it would not be a mule but rather a variety. A mule is an unintentional die pairing. If I understand right, the date is added at the matrix stage nowadays. So for the old style to exist would have required great effort and hence intent.

It would be an oddity like the 1969 10c Large Date. But much more subtle and difficult to casually detect.

I think wert brought this topic up a couple of years ago.
Mule or variety, doesn't matter,I just can't stop looking at every 2009 I come across, hoping the change was made early in production like the '69 large date dime.I know the odds are remote after this many years but it's just one of my many coin compulsions.

Just to make it easier to see and maybe look for a mistake...up till 2008 the last "A" in Canada points between the denticles and after 2009 on the last "A" in Canada points to a denticle..Now..maybe there are some that do not follow that process..then it would be a variety..Lots of luck looking.
