My mother in law has had this for about 19 years or so when it was turned into her at a Gas station. She asked me about it and I figured I would turn to the experts for advice, history and value of this coin.
We have seen a few coin collectors and they have verified it's authentic, they have weighed the coin and determined it is a dime, the face on the back is a dime and yet the front is stamped with a penny. It is silver in color and is in excellent shape.
CCF. Do you know the weight? It dosn't look like a dime planchet to me could be another country though. Can you show us the thickness compared to a penny?
When and if you decide to sell it please let us know otherwise stick around as there is a bundle of free information for you on this site. Welcome aboard lokidbt!
So I took it to get looked at today from a few coin Vendors in the city.
They say it is a dime stamped with a penny face. It weighs and measures like a dime the only difference of course is the penny face.
One offered to buy it for $250, one for $500 and one was around $650.
Do you guys know the true value of something like this as these numbers seem all over plus they would have to be low if the seller is buying them to re-sell and make money off
Don't know if I have seen an 84. You see 79 and 80 fairly often and they sell for around $150 to $300. I would guess an 84 is scarcer and is worth more. As DBM says, $650 sounds generous.
