Not sure if this should be posted here or the NCLT section, but I see the Lucky Loonie is listed as "awaiting stock" on the RCM website now (i.e. for all public, not just MC), with an option of being notified when it becomes available for purchase. There is a stated limit of 3 per household. Not sure if this means it sold out on MC release, or whether it's in very low stock and they are just preparing for the general release on (presumably) Tuesday, January 14th. At any rate, for those interested, it might be worthwhile to sign up.

The 2014 lucky loonie was just announced in Banff so it will be available on the website soon (it wasn't offered to MC first). They have a coin exchange going on now if you happen to be Banff. The coins go into circulation January 20th but oddly, pictures on the website and Mint's FB page have it looking exactly like the 2012 Lucky Loonie. I assume there will be an NCLT silver version coming soon too.

Thx for posting. Extremely disappointed that the design is the same as 2012. This is the first time that it is a carry over.

Thanks for the clarification, CC-Ottawa. I agree with both you and Paisa that it's disappointing to see a repeated design. At least a slight change would have been good.

The mint is making things expensive for loonie collectors. The themed uncirculated sets (Oh Canada, Baby, Wedding, and Birthday) have shifted from a special 25c to a special $1.
So, +5 loonies right out the gate.

I, too, find it disappointing that the RCM uses the same design as 2012.

They aren't the same.
One has 2012 on the reverse.
The other has 2014 on the reverse.
To paraphrase the Twix commercial, "Completely different process."

My wife pointed this out to me today...Boy does she get mad when they advertise something she can't buy.

Incidentally We got two of the 2014 Birthday sets. The move to the loonie is a bit disappointing even though they are nice. The condition of the twoonies is abysmal for a sealed set with no mintage number! The 4 in 2014 on the 5 cent coin seems rather large to me and the inability to view the back of the coin

Kind of like when Shreddies came out with their 'new" diamond shape a few years back!
