I'm thinking of selling some of my Canadian coins on ebay. Are there any advantages in listing them in either ebay.com or .ca? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

eBay.ca allows you to state a numerical grade in the title if it is not a TPG'd coin. ebay.com has a limited list of TPGs it recognizes that does not include ICCS or CCCS. Make sure you are VERY aware of your responsibilities as a seller and what you have to do to qualify for Paypal seller protection. Otherwise you may be stuck reimbursing buyers out of pocket and end up with nothing.

Also, if you're in Canada and primarily selling Canadian coins to Canadian buyers then it's best to list in Canadian dollars and save yourself the 5% exchange fee Paypal charges (2.5% for the buyer to exchange into US$ and 2.5% for you to exchange back).

p.s. Also remember that ebay and Paypal both take their percentages on the shipping paid as well so set your rates accordingly.

Ebay.com is great if you think the USA customers would buy your product.

I am pretty sure Using ebay.ca and offering shipping to the USA will make your auctions show up in ebay.com

Yes, as @Bm0ney says, if you list on ebay.ca and just enable a shipping method to the US then the listing will display to buyers who use ebay.com as well. Good luck!

Please also remember anything under 20mm thick and under 30 grams can be sent with a 70 cent stamp.
PayPal charges a minimum of 37 cents.
10% of the sale goes to ebay at the end of the month.

The minimum you want to sell for is $1.25 plus the face value of the coin or you will loose money.

If your most stuff is under $12, you may want to choose a kind of PayPal account called "small amount", which only charge 5c+5% and it's better for small amount stuff.

Make sure to decide if you are going to risk taking the chance on your buyers being honest by using untracked shipping. Tracked shipping is safer but expensive. I think that buyers tend to deduct the cost of shipping from what they bid for a coin so it really comes out of the seller's pocket.

I have shipped a lot of items on ebay. I find that he loss rate on untracked low price coins is almost zero. Strangely the loss rate on expensive untracked coins is much higher.....I would guess 10%. I do not believe in coincidences so I attribute it to cheating by buyers. While it stings to get cheated, I still feel it is better off to take the loss of 10% of my $50 items rather than lose $12 on each one by sending things Expresspost. I Expresspost at around $100.

registered mail to the US is not safe. Once it crosses the border, tracking ceases and the registered markings might as well say "steal me". you have to use a tracked packet or a carrier other than Canada Post.

Wow. That's crazy. 10% sounds endemic. Do you have a policy (fool me once ...)?

There are only so many sellers, so cheaters will eventually run out of sellers if they make it a habit.

If anyone asks for a refund due to a lost item I block them unless I am sure it is innocent. The 10% figure is not a precise measure but it is in the correct ballpark. I always check the feedback before shipping an item over $50. If I see any signs of trouble I will track if the distance is close (and the cost is not too bad as a result).

@ bmoney I had a great laugh when I read your response. I just thought it might be to long for the forum. There are many traps when selling on ebay and can take a while to learn to avoid. I read the seller forums both here & US and have gained great wisdom. If there's interest, I don't mind sharing on the forum, but didn't want to bore people. Just when I think I've got it covered, a new situation will arise I never planned for.'its quite the learning curve.
