This one too will be sold for an upgrade. Although the details are almost as good as it gets, unfortunately this coin has been recolored....and I am going for original mint luster and more or less problem free status on my type set. I think my new purchase actually is slightly less detailed..lol.

Great coin. I would go with AU55, details. The recoloring doesn't look so bad in these photos but the reverse looks weak to me.

Yeah, I think the recoloring makes it hard to grade....as it is difficult to determine wear from weak strike. This could have easily been a BU coin imho before being messed with.

My opinion is that it was - and still is - Uncirculated. First place my eye goes on these is the hair bun, and I see no sign of wear there whatsoever. Judging from the haloing around the devices - particularly the bust - I see a coin got environmentally darkened, cleaned up and recolored. A terrific example from a purely Details standpoint.

What concerned me, other than a soft obverse strike, was the reverse wreath; which IMHO, shows sure signs of light circulation.

I dunno, I'd rethink selling. It's a nice example and the recoloring will tone in time and will not be noticeable. I like it and if not uncirculated it is surely AU58.

Thanks for the grades. My main issue with it is there is no luster, and it will never "grow" back. With that much detail, you would expect a decent cartwheel, or at least some residual luster in the protected areas. If it had any of that, I would keep it...but I am going for luster in my large and Half Cent type collection(excluding the draped busts and classic head large cent).
