Lets say I have an item for $12 bid with $15 shipping. What does ebay charge their fees off of? Is it only the $12 or is it both. I know paypal charges for both because that is the transaction.

It is both. It used to be just the bid but they changed it a while back.

Yeah, that's simply to discourage gouging on the shipping.

AH I remember the good old days of seeing 1 cent items with 140 dollar shipping to avoid the ebay fees. I always got a nice chuckle out of those. Amazon used to have a lot of that too

10% ebay (or less if you are a store) and 3% Paypal.

You can get a 20 percent discount on the ebay fee as a top rated seller as well.

Yeah, it's worth it for all of the publicity. I sell some stuff that I couldn't give away locally. It really can help you out.

Okay, I didn't think about that. Its just annoying for a flat rate box that I'm charging the ebay label price for. Oh well, I guess a few can mess it up for all.

Top rated seller with a store ($15 monthly fee) gets you 6% when you sell coins. Paypal is actually 2.9% plus $0.30 so might as well call it 3% unless it's a high dollar coin.

If your buyer has a foreign registered paypal email address, the fee jumps to 3.9%. I found out the hard way. Buyer had a CA address and a Korean email address. The buyer didn't pay and didn't respond to communications. I was forced to open a case and then they paid 2 hrs before the case closed and it cost me an extra 1%. Really stuck in my craw

Is there an easy way to figure out about the email address?

Maybe someone else can answer better than me, but I don't think the buyers email address is available until a payment has been made.....then I see it in paypal.

It's worth remembering that that non-domestic buyer might have increased your final sale price by a considerable amount.
