Hey, I've just found this thing in our basement (Germany), and this doesn't look like it belongs to this country. My father is from Turkey, and, as you may already expect, we have a lot of relatives. I think that anyone of them may have brought this here a long time ago, otherwise I have no idea. I can't ask my father anymore, since he left & there's no contact anymore, so I have to count on you guys - Check it out, tell me if this is anything useful, and if it's maybe valuable: EDIT: IT'S SILVER, NOT GOLDEN! Sorry if they look golden in the picture, let me add another one Weight - 27 grams Edited by Kraftwerk 01/17/2014 2:28 pm

Looks like a Spanish silver "cob". These are commonly faked but yours looks OK to my untrained eyes.

It really seems to be something spanish, but I couldn't find anything which looks 100% the same. Pretty strange. I'll just wait for more answers.

As nalaberong says, it looks like a Spanish cob coin. The weight would be about right for an 8 Real coin (a 'Piece of Eight' of Pirates of the Caribbean fame!)
But it's not something I know much about so you'll need to wait for someone else to confirm if it's real (LOL) and if so, which mint and date it might be.

I really think it's a fake, since the "lions" more look like stuffed animals than lions, if I compare them to all the other coins I've checked out now. But I'm not a professional, heck no. I have no experience with coins at all, just found this thing and now I try to get some informations about it. So yeah, I'll have to wait for a professional. I went through the internet for hours now, and I saw at least 50 coins which looked 90% the same, but something was different again. darn this is hard.

Are you sure? Check the picture you've posted again, there's some kind of a 2nd small shield emblem on the upper middle part of the big shield, but mine only has 1 small shield emblem on the lower part of the shield. I have no experience with this, so I can't tell if that means something. I have refined both of the pictures now, so everything is more visible: EDIT: Alright, I think I found the coin: http://sunkentreasure.com/gbroyal.htm Lot 933 (Scroll down a bit) Bolivia "Royal" 8 Reales, 1630-P-T (Potosi). WR-4; KM-R19a. 26.99 grams. Philip IV, 1621-1665 It says "Estimated Value $15,000 - 20,000", which is pretty much not true. What is it worth?

Yes, you are right Kraftwerk. Here you find the arms of Spain : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:A...68-1700).svgIf you find an extra shield in this spanish shield, than you can identify the region where the coin is made for Each symbol on the shield represents a region where that the spanish king ruled
