Does anyone use buy it now, (other than a case where the starting bid is the same price as the buy it now price)? I have never used buy it now, I will always try to get the coin cheaper, with the late auction snipe. I could see using it if the ideal piece for my collection comes along and the 'buy it now' price is fair, and not too much more than the starting bid.

What are your thoughts on buy it now?

I normally only use BIN if it is not an auction. The best ones are the newest items listed. I always check the ones around the 6 Day 23 Hour Mark.

Setting a BIN & Auction Starting Price at the Same $ Amount is quite dumb and I see no point in wasting change on it.

I have noticed several times when I have put a BIN item in my watch list, the final final hammer price ends up 10%-20% higher than the original BIN price after bidding eliminates the BIN.

I actually saw a BIN on a $5 gold indian certified by either PCGS or NGC at MS-63 for $350 once. Unfortunately, I was too late, someone else had already snagged the super-bargin.

Yeah, I don't really understand putting the BIN as the same price as the auction start price, but I see people do it sometimes.

I use it when it makes sense. I have been looking for books on currency. The particular book is scarce on ebay or anywhere else. There was one with a BIN of say $65, and another in regular auction at $57 with 14 bids and 2 days left. Shipping was $2 more on the regular auction. To me, it made no sense to try to snipe something for a potential $1 difference in the end when I can have it in the mail two days earlier. That's not even taking into account that it may go over the BIN price in the other auction. Again, it depends on the item. I actually like looking for BIN or best offer. Sometimes your idea of a "low ball" figure does get accepted.

Yer darn right I have. Some of the nicest stuff in my collection has come as the result of searching Buy It Now's, listed by Newly Listed. While everybody else is sitting with their fingers poised over the left mouse button at 8PM on weekend nights, I'm looking at the newly-listed coins, looking for the ones the seller doesn't know about, listed to end the next week.

Yer darn right I have, and I will in the future.

I've used BIN many, many times. I have made some really nice buys when someone lists a coin from estate, etc. and the BIN is well below fair market value.

In fact I bought an original roll of Roosevelt dimes yesterday. Can't wait till they get here!!

Have a great one all.

I use buy it now to sell current release items and accessories at issue or rrp. This gives me higher turnover than waiting for auctions to finish.

If the price is right I will buy a BIN item....but keep in mind I am a dealer and it will generally be for a guarenteed resale a I already have a buyer.

I have only used BIN twice. Once for a high end $5 gold coin and once for a Liberty Half. The owner of the gold coin was selling his collection and he told me his cost was $0 as it was inherited. The Liberty was graded MS65 in an old green PCGS holder. It looked really nice and after a half dozen questions I bought it. Sent in for regrading and sure enough it cam back MS66. As SuperDave stated you keep your finger on the button when placed. Both were bought within 15 minutes of post. Just luck as I don't have the time during the week to monitor.
