Just picked up 2 colonials in my travels with over 7 hours in the car today.

1. 1787 New Jersey: My best guess is Maris 46-e. Fine details, environmental damage. Thoughts?

2. 1787 Connecticut Draped Bust Left: My best guess is 32.2-X.1. Fine details, corrosion. Thoughts?

Thanks all!

Whatever their condition, I always find the colonials to be quite intriguing, and these are no exception. While I have a number of them in my collection, it's the ones with smooth, brown planchets that I most frequently visit. Thus, I've tried to avoid the environmentally damaged coppers more so, as time progresses.

I think you're right on both attributions! And I think a "distressed look" gives a colonial character.

Just a shame that the condition doesn't do justice to the horse's big, creepy doe-eye on the Maris 46 obverse!

Both attributions look good to me too Ben :-)

The Connec is definitely a dug coin.

What makes the Connec an X.1 versus X.2? They look so similar that I cannot distinguish a difference.

Note: The previous owner of the 46-e called it a Serpent Head. I knew it was not because of the head, although the diagnostics are very similar to 54-k.

Primarily the position of the numbers in the date. Pay particular attention to the 8. Also minor difference in position of the cinquefoils.
