I did a quick search on here and couldn't a thread but what does your local coin store sell their junk silver coins for. Mine sells for 15x face which is just a few cents above spot right now. I wasn't sure if this was a great deal or not. I picked out a few needed dimes and a couple decent early 1900's halves.

Where I live you have to find flea markets or auctions and the like as most dealers in my area already have buyers lined up for scrap. I've paid as little as 10% over melt up to 15% depending on the seller and the coin condition.

That's a good deal. I think on Sat that mine was selling at 16-something per dollar and was buying at like 15.05.

My LCS sells it so fast I don't even get a shot at it. Can usually find it at around 16 X face on ebay though. |

The store I go to charged 18x face the last time I was there (before December). For that price I get to pick whatever coins I want from their stock on hand; no minimum.
Another local shop has a much cheaper price but you get what they give you, which means I may or may not find ANY coins I need. Also, I think the minimum price is around $1,500.00, which is something I never have laying around.

Morgan $22
It's a sellers market here, a mid-sized town with 2 LCS that are on opposite sides of an intersection. Pricing can get interesting.

$22 for a morgan!? That's insane. My LCS is a ripoff compared to the prices posted already. Mercs:$3 Rosie:$2.50 SLQ:$6 Barber Q:$6-$7 Walker:$12 Barber half:$13 You can't find a decent morgan for less than $30. The $29 bin is full of beat up morgans and Peace dollars. You don't even wanna know what you get when you ask for melt. Usually you don't know because they are so slick. |

Makes me feel better about mine thanks keepcalmandcoinon  , sorry about yours thou. I did get a Morgan last year for $36 but silver was over $30 at the time. |

Thanks for all the replies, seems that 15x is a pretty good deal. He has Mercs and Roosies for $1.50 Barber, Standing Liberty and Washington quarters for $3.75 Walking Liberty, Franklin and Kennedy halves for $7.50 Im thinking I should go back and buy some more. |

I can only think that he hasn't any competition (aside from the internet) in that location. He is paying close to double what most stores will buy at. Of course, if I'm looking to sell my junk silver coins then I LOVE THE GUY!! If I'm buying; not so much. Called my local shop yesterday to see what they had and the guy told me not to bother coming in as he isn't getting anything new in as people don't want to sell so low. He had lots of Canadian but little or none U.S. coinage. I forgot to ask what his current rates were (sorry) as I was disappointed that I couldn't blow more of my hard earned money on coins. |

$22 is a awesome price for morgans/peace. Don't be fooled by melt for silver dollars, you will not get it that cheap
