Hello I'm New to the Forum and Coin collecting!
I was wondering If anyone could help me with this 1929 penny with some kind of doubling in the in the word IN, The G in God and the S in Trust. Does this looks like a double die or is it Machine Doubling? I tried to look it up and couldn't find a reference to a DD for this year or mint. Any Help would be greatly appreciated

Flat shelf like damage from die movement. The devices are reduced and not enlarged like a hubbed doubled die would show.

to the forum! Yes as the above had posted it is Machine Doubling which isn't collectible. The good news is you still have an old Wheat cent :) Just for curiosity sake how did you come to possess this coin? Pocket Change?

Thank you everyone for getting back to me... I'm still learning! I got this coin from a coffee can full of wheat pennies I found behind a false back drawer in my Great Grandpa's Kitchen! Of course He made me count them out and pay him for them. My Husband and I counted out $18!! All of them are wheat pennies with dates ranging from 1912-1958 most of them are from the 40's. As I go through them you'll be seeing me a lot more on here ;) Any dates to watch for? Thanks again
Rest in Peace

Ellen7180, go and buy the, "Red Book." This is the basic bible of U.S. coins. Found at most book stores ie. Barnes& this book will give you a basic idea of the value of Wheat Cents but not the true value. An old or new book is basically the same give or take recent years.

Or check out coppercoins.com

You might want to sort them by the last digit into 10 containers. Then sort them by decade and check each year to see what is on coppercoins to look for.

It takes some time to develop the eye. So you might want to re-check another time or two.
