I voted MD but John is probably right. The reverse does look very slightly doubled.

Is it just me, or does this coin look copper? I just looked at the copper coins website and this is the closest I could find to a match and I am not even sure if it is correct but the flow lines around the date look close. 1943P-1DR-001

It does look copper to me too but it could be the pic or my computer monitor.

I think perhaps a LDS 1943P-1DR-001. Color does look interesting now that I am on my laptop instead of my phone.

Cool little quiz Coop, I'm going to guess " Die Deterioration Doubling" with a few die scratches. I know next to nothing about US pennies but shouldn't 1943 be copper?

Only a few of the 1943's were copper. Here are the rare ones:

But there are more than one answer for the coin I posted. Something I bought off ebay. Wanted to show that more than one thing can happen to a coin/die during production. So far one correct answer has not been chosen yet. But there are more than one correct answer. My purpose if to train eyes. Sometimes we may spot one thing, but other things are going on.

The things I see as scratches are actually from a clash? That thought crossed my mind.

I'd say Machine Doubling but then again the Cherry Pickers Guide show some 40% clad Kennedy halves that are listed as "Doubled Dies" which look like very example of MD and I've found a ton of them and sold for melt so they can't be that rare or real.

I saw that raised mark between CE but I figured it was just a gouge which you did not have a choice for but now that I think about it again it must have a minor die clash too.

My son is an Avid collector of the 1943 steelies. We have researched these alot together, and he never gets bored collecting them.

Yeah that coin is definately one with 4-5 issues. Always nice to see a pre-1950 coin cherry picked.

I'm pretty sure my son has exhausted his eyeballs looking at the 43's under the scope, but I will double check.
