The "8" does seem to have a "flat top".

hmmm...very interesting. My guess is that it isn't the overdate; but I CERTAINLY would have risked it if purchased for normal 18-s value. Are there any other die markers for this variety?

A marker is the E from the motto on the back shows up on the obverse even with the forth star insid the robe next to the knee. Easily seen in ms coins. Allot of fakes on ebay but you can tell because people scribed the letter E but it has to be punched through the other side. On my coin you can make out the e and when you slide to reverse it does seem to line up properly. Remember flip up and over so it faces the same way but the bigger space moves from the bottom to the top. You'll see now that you know. Don't laugh to hard when you check ebay though some are really bad. I took a shot here for $45.00 because the flat top something in the bottom loop and a correct looking E punch through.

$45? I'm pretty sure I can see the "E" even in these pics. I have it as VG10, and I'm guessing you know what it's worth.

For $45 I would take that shot all day, every day.
From the pics it looks like you might have scored.

Wow! Looks very hopeful, and I learned something new! I have prided myself in cherry-picking 6 dateless 1916s over the years, but I never went after this variety. Makes me want to scower ebay..lol.

Remember there's a bunch with the e next to her knee but you can see they are scribed in the way I listed mine you can slid up and down and see the e matches if you flipped it up and over. Plus the flat top of eight and lower loop if it didn't have all of these I don't think I would try it

Help me out a little. As you are facing liberty, you are talking about the right leg (her left) correct? Also, this "E" we are talking about. Should it be a backwards "E" since it came from the reverse? I'm looking 4 stars up near the knee and see hints of an "E", but it is facing the correct direction. The reason I'm asking, is because I have a PCGS slabbed 1918 s quarter that I can kinda see the same markings on but it is not marked 1918/17. The top of the 8 looks kinda flat also. The chances of PCGS getting this wrong is slim but possible. Trying to make sure. Now it's bugging me!

Forget it. I answered my own question. Her right knee (my left). And the "E" looks more level than I was picturing. Keep your hopes in check. My 1918 s quarter slabbed by PCGS has a similar looking area. I'll try to post a decent pic.
