surfaces look original based on reverse photo vs scan not enough luster to make MS, high AU worth sending if resale is the goal and you want to guarantee the buyers its not cleaned and have it potentially move faster as a result of that

I've sold a few, but really planning on keeping this one in the collection. What would y'all guess the value on it? Thanks!

ebay raw near $400 on the right auction the market is weak right now, ex: see DLRC Auction Archives, this issue/mm just hammered 11/13 in PCGS CAC AU58 for $475...3 years ago when gold was pumped up as a PM with record market highs, PCGS AU58 was north of $625 for the same coin as a market average

lol....I will pay $400 all day, or 4400 for that matter. Probably closer to 10k, maybe 8 or 9.
Sad, I have a near complete set of indian half eagles, and I need only this example and the 1929.

That I could live with..might just sell it down the road to help cover the cost of restoring an old car I inherited.

I'm not good at grading these, but I would definitely send in a 1909-O to be graded and certified by a TPG if you ever want to sell it. There are some big price jumps between grades when you get to the mid-AU range

If it was yours and you might be selling it later on, would you have it graded? Where?

Looks like at least AU-50 details. Can't tell whether surfaces are original or whether it would grade problem-free.
A 1909-O absolutely should be graded preferably by PCGS to ensure authenticity and to maximize the potential sale value. If you don't want to join their collector club (to get direct submission privileges) you need to find a trustworthy local dealer who will submit it for you.
An NGC-certified AU-55 example recently sold for almost $20K on Heritage. If cleaned or otherwise identified as a "problem" coin the value will drop by at least half.
Good luck, and please let us know what happens if you send it for grading!

Thanks! I think I'll check around in the Springfield, MO area and see if any dealers will do it..

You could send it my way and I'll check its authenticity for you. It would be my pleasure!
