Hi everyone . So I'm sure there is no right age to begin coin collecting but recently I came in possession of my grandfathers old coin collection and I found a few coins that I know are special. I just dont know how special and I was wondering if anyone can help me out or give me advice or guidance. ok so I have 5 coins *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***1. 1904 Barber half dollar - It is in really good shape , I am just wondering if in fact on the date the 0 and the 4 look crooked. Am I right ? and is this an error or a common occurance ? Should I get it graded ? 2. 1886 Morgan dollar 3. 1945 Walking Liberty Dollar 4. 1942 & 44 Mercury dime So what I'm basically wondering is are these coins worth getting graded and if so how much does it cost and how do I go about doing it . Also are any of these key or semi-key dates? I've attached some pics . I hope they help and thank you to anyone who can help .

, they all look great, not sure about the dates or slabbing, but they are in good enough shape to think about it.

Welcome to the CCF Kroseph33. Your coins are all common to their respective series. I would not send them in for grading but they are nice looking coins! I would keep them in those holders..the Airtite holder

these are way too common to be sent in. They are still good looking coins though! are these the only ones you got?

Can you post a close-up of the date on the 1942? I think I see something, but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the responses so far. So none of these are worth getting graded ? On the 1904 Barber in regards to its mint date is the "0" and "4" a lil crooked or am I imagining things? Also are they worth selling on here or ebay ? These are some of the coins

If they were your grandfather's, they are all special. I have a couple of coins that were my grandmother's and some that were my mother's, there is no price guide that reflects the true value.

You are not going to get rich from these common coins. Not even a month's rent. Is it worth selling your grandad's collection he left you for a couple of good meals ?

The extra cash you would get from the coins would be gone in 30 seconds. I would keep the coins. Imagine giving them to your grandchildren and telling them they come from your grandfather (4 generations).

I agree with many of the posters here. Unless you can't buy your next meal, don't sell these. They will mean much more to you later in life because they were your grandfathers coins than they will buying a few lunches at a deli. Just my .02 If you really HAVE to sell them, you can take them to a local coin show (preferably with a friend who collects and knows some of the dealers) and ask for some offers -or- research the prices from a number of different sources and sell them to someone on this site who may want them. Best, USN

The 1904 Barber is pretty cool. Kind of has the John Lennon look going on.
