Thanks fuzzy ... I don't get into the token section very often.
I should have looked around before just posting.
I am sure I will look though that thread a couple times.
Oh .. Nice lot of tokens you have there .. I think I will have to Keep a eye out for more of them.

Those are just the pictures I have loaded, so far. I have 54 CWT (52 Patriotic, 2 Store Cards). I have on my "To Do List" to take new pictures of those plus the additions.

I don't have any of these, but if my means permitted, I certainly would! I love old copper coins with history.

Note that the shield-type tokens generally have the fine vertical (in the bars) & horizontal (in the field) hatching to denote the colours red & blue, according to heraldic convention. I am ever so mad at the US Mint for not including those on the current shield cents.

I'm not - yet, but they really interest me a lot! Tons of history, tons of various ones to collect! I'm sure with Q. David Bowers latest book on them they will see an upsurge in collectors searching them out.

GR58 - that 1864 Lincoln "Lincoln and Union" is also considered a presidential campaign token, and has a DeWitt/Sullivan number of AL 1864-45.

There are a few SERIOUS collectors here on the CCF, and many other "fringe" collectors who dabble in them. The serious collectors are VERY knowledgeable in CWTs. Here's a link one of the better CWT topics here... https://goccf.com/t/108866

GR58, Not all CWT, but a few merchant or advertising tokens or store cards. The one with the coffin is very interesting. It dates from the Civil War days when many bodies needed to be shipped to the families.
I have only one.

I collect Civil War Era tokens too and Lincoln politicals. It's not the largest part of my collection, but I have spent some money there. I love the designs. Are these more scarce than the mint issued coins of the time?

There were less of them produced than US coins. But, I guess their survival rate might be a little higher than US coins of that time.

My collecting of Civil War Tokens is primarily focused on Michigan towns and cities, with a special focus on Jackson County MI. I have a few Patriotic tokens that I have picked up along the way.

I have about 25 or 30 of them, mostly Yankee Robinson tokens.
Q David Bowers had a personal interest in the Yankee Robinson tokens, collected them and wrote about them.
So it seemed probable that he would include some extra coverage of them in the new book. I bought a copy and he did indeed dedicate a few pages to those tokens.
The book is nice, and all in color, and 440 pages. One odd thing about it, though, is what might be described is physically the way the paperback seems to be "compressed". It's got a case of the bends, as though it wants to curl up, and it will be stored on my bookshelf flat, stacked with other books instead of on edge, because it keeps trying to change shape. But it seems like most paperbacks do better stacked anyway, so no big deal.
