I have been looking for a good coin collecting freeware program but instead I keep finding very expensive software programs or free thirty day trials. Do you know of any good freeware programs that I can download (preferably with pictures and not a demo)?

There is a simple software called Numismatist's Notebook that is shareware. The registration fee is $4.95. I beleive it can be downloaded from Sandy Knoll software. It is a simple program, but you can add your own pictures.

I use Numismatist's Notebook and I am quite pleased. It has replaced the $100+ software I previously used because of its simplicity, user friendly interface, and the ability to import xcel and word files. I have not yet registered it yet as it is NOT required, but I feel I owe it to them since it's only $5.

Well, I'll say what someone is bound to say....
Many people use Excel or Access. I don't know what your computer skills are, but if you have to learn some Excel, that is a really useful life skill. In addition, once you've learned a bit, you can custom fit whatever you need or want. And that works not just for coins.
Hadn't heard about the Notebook software though. Will have to check that out.

Same subject comes up all the time. Just remember that if you learn Excel you will have access to a program you can use anywhere on Earth. If you use a different program for your coins, that program will have to be put on any computer you want to use for your coins. Many, many places and people will not allow you to put a strand program on their computer. With Excel all you need is a CD, 3 1/2 disc or such with your info on it and you can view it just about anywhere, make additioins, changes, etc.

Do any of you have your collections through Excel that you could let me see so I get some formatting ideas?

It's a bit of a mess... not set up for public consumption... and it's a bit on the simple side (note: formating breaks all over the place if viewing in firefox, on the up-side you'll see all the 'hidden cells' on the down side it looks even worse than normal) http://www.flyte.name/pages/cotd/index.htm

Hey, Pocket Change, Thanks for posting your spreadsheet. I've been using Excel with no problem, but it never occurred to me to use sheets. I had it all on one big long sheet. Thanks.

I know this thread is pretty old, but maybe some people are still watching it.

I recently bought CoinManage Software from Liberty Street on ebay. I like it so far. It has pictures of every year, and coin. You can enter detailed info. upload your own pic of the coin, make reports, needing reports, collection value reports, and if you have PCGS coins it has the pcgs prices updated each and every month. It also gives values for each grade of every coin. I like it. It cost me 37.00 and arrived in 3 days.

I don't recommend the coinmanage software at all. the price is not bad but they have absolutely zero support for setup help and their baurds are so full of spam and trash that you get no help there either. I emailed them about 4-6 times in the last few months that I have had it and have yet to get a response from them. plain and simple it is a money thing for them and will never be worth what you or I paid for it. and yep I really do hope the "programmer" the wrote it is on this site and See's this stay clear of coin-manage Gary

Like Kabiye Lady, just carl and Bobbi above, I use an excel spreadsheet for my collection.
As they point out it is worth the effort to learn how to use it. My spreadsheet has been developed over some years but it contains all the info I require.
Even though I have over 10,000 items entered they are still just on one sheet and it is easy enough to navigate once you get the hang of it. The capacity for a single sheet is 65,000+ lines so no worries about filling it in the near future.
I did at one time have a lot of my coins scanned in but I found it was time and memory consuming. Then I recently found Don Norris's http://(131231) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed / site and it's great. You just register and you can log in your collection. Very easy to use and there are pictures for most of the coins featured although it doesn't feature individual years.
