This is a very interesting coin. I have had it in my 7070 for a while, and I have decided that it does not need upgrading. It has one of the most offset strikes (major misaligned die?) I have ever seen. Liberty's Face and breast is just booming with detail and mint luster, while the back of her hair is really weak. The reverse is even worse, where one side is really strong and the other side is barely legible. This was pulled from a problem free ANACS slab, which I strongly disagreed with the grade on. The contrast in color is due to the reflection of the luster, which is more skewed than most coins. The fact of the matter is while there are various strike weakness, both the fields and devices are just booming with mint luster(especially the obverse)...and for that reason, it fits with my other more lustrous copper cents. Thoughts on the grade....I imagine there will be a LOT of mixed opinions on this....

Your a night owl like me John!

Taking into account the drapery on her bust, as well as the wreath leaves and flow lines of luster, I'm calling this coin AU53.
I'm guessing ANACS was in at F-VF?
Obvious strike weakness with possibly, grease in the dies too. Kind of has that look in places.

yeah, what is weird is that the weakly struck field areas are actually high points on the coin.

You were close Dave. ANACS graded this coin VF-20!! Can you believe it? Fortunately I purchased it already graded, so I got it for a song. I am debating sending it in again, just to see what they say.

I too think AU50/53 lots of luster, were you able to acquire this one at a VF price? If so you killed that deal!

You could send it to ANACS again :-)
That would be kind of fun actually!

Was it one of the newer holders John?

Yes, I got it at VF price, and it was in an older small white holder....so I'm sure there a change in personel has occurred since then. I agree with grades in the AU range. I think some of the details are borderline MS, but this coin could never sell for more than low AU money imho.
