Lately I have seen on e-bay a lot of certified Indian Head cents in anacs, ngc, and pcgs holders.it is to my understanding pcgs is the best then ngc,and anacs.i have heard pcgs will not slab Indian Head cents with corrsion etc without just giving details.I've been seeing a lot of both pcgs and ngc coins that are surely ugly and spots etc with higher grades than anacs coins. is pcgs just a name in the hobby/business? I'm new at this so I don't mean to sound harsh or anything of sort.

You had the order correct in terms of premiums. Theres a large gap between PCGS/NGC and everyone else.

Toning is probably the most decisive part of the hobby. Its seem people love or hate it on a coin by coin basis with rarely anyone saying its okay.

A coin can be ugly and still technically be in the same grade as a beautiful one. Eye appeal is part of grading but just one of many factors. Its probably the biggest reason why you can see two coins in the same grade sell for radically different prices. One of the reason youll see more of the ugly ones in the PCGS/NGC holders is because they get the bulk of the more valuable coins. They have more of the ugly ones, but they also have almost every one of the gorgeous top end ones too.

Even in the same grade no two coins are alike which is why even with graded its important to pick out ones you like instead of just going for the first one you see.

Unfortunately, I don't agree with basebal21.

Depends on what generation of ANACS/PCGS/NGC holder.

Buy the coin....NOT the holder is the first and last rule of slabs.

Have seen coins that turned in the slabs (somebody was dipping or fooling prior to slabbing). Coins overgraded (google "Omaha Hoard" for recent examples) and, hopefully coins undergraded!

If you really want the best IHC in certified holders then look for the Eagle EYe sticker from Rick Snow! I agree with buy the coin not the holder adage too!
