Looks like a small date to me to...but I would like a closer picture to be 100% certain. But I am currently 99% certain :) Sweet find!

It's harder for me to tell from the photo regarding where the loop in the '9' is pointing (towards the 7 or towards the S). But given the weaker strike on LIBERTY and the alignment of the tops of the date, I'd think you were correct.

You should not use the "Weaker Liberty" to ID a small date. Large Dates can be struck with liberty being weak. I would hate for someone to by a coin thinking it is a SD because it has a weak Liberty and then it is a LD. All SD's have a weaker Liberty...but not ALL Weak Liberty's are Small Dates. Just trying to help.

Understood Jayman and correct to add that modifier. I just couldn't tell from the photo if the loop pointed to the right spot. Looking at the 70 S's I've accumulated, it's not always clear even in hand where the loop points (wear, dings, etc.). I find myself tilting the coin trying to get a good read. It can be challenging for sure. Given the other anecdotal evidence, I'd still be leaning to it being a smally.

Close up of the date/mm area might help some ... but I state this is a 1970-S LMC small date. Nice circulated find indeed. One of the very few raw examples ever declared as such here at the CCF ... and we have seen plenty LD varieties. David
