It's clearly the 1894/1894--anybody want it? (Just found it--not selling, don't tell seller) Lower grade w/ some issues--maybe you can negotiate down the price--good luck! Edited by DVCollector 01/29/2014 7:57 pm

I've found a couple at coin shows. I suspect ebay is scanned by far too many people for higher-grade examples to escape notice.

Hmmm...if it is, it's not terribly obvious, is it? Perhaps a repunching inside the loop? Just guessing--I don't have the Snow guide for this year.

Just checked the Snow guide, it is a Snow 4. the repunching is most visible to the west on the top and bottom loops. On this coin, it is most obvious on the bottom of the 6. Snow says "this seems to be a faiily scarce variety" and gives it 2 stars.

Quote: Here's a neat 1864-L with a bisecting die crack. Super rare, but probably not worth that price.
That's a spectacular crack - known for the issue. The price is high, but I'm not so sure it's totally out of line for an AU coin, especially if you can cure the verdigris and wrangle it into a PCGS slab. If it makes 53, that price starts to become realistic. Excepting the cost of slabbing, of course. Honestly, I'd probably consider throwing a realistic offer at this one.

That's a pretty cool coin, given it's an "L" type and how the crack bisects the obverse (particularly the date). Ignoring the verdigris for now, that's not much of a surcharge is it? I like the direction this thread has taken--keep'em coming!
