ive got like 16 of them. so .80 face. Most of those found in about 4 weeks around when I first started looking for silver in circulation. Never bought any yet although one day I would like to get a really nice set of them. Up until 4 days ago it had been like 3 months since I found the last one. I saw one 4 days ago on the end of a roll counting money at work, a 1943 s. the s is almost not there until you look really close it is so worn(just the mintmark is terribly worn, the rest is just worn) but the toning gave it away to me in a second. I was hoping there would be another 10 in the roll but such is life. :)
I think about the time they were made everytime I find one. I can't imagine going through a world war like that, knowing pretty much everything was on the line at that point and so many sacrifices of lives would have to be made. Scary times.

I keep wondering how much silver prices have been countered by inflation. The old joke about a 5 cent candy bar: well now a 5 cent silver nickel is about a dollar and that 5 cent candy bar is now about a buck.

10-15 cents for a gallon of gas...

A brand new car for 500 Morgan's?

I love War Nickels. In uncirculated they shore r purdy. Most are well worn and not so hot. Still they can be found in rolls and I have found a few that way. But I don't look too hard. I wouldn't pay more than face for worn examples. Nice uncirculated ones can be had for a few dollars, although a few can be tough to find. I had a hard time finding a nice 1944-D.

Might depend on which War.
Posts like this could start a new type of collecting. There are those that collect error coins, holed coins, certain date coins, etc. Now I wonder how many collect War Nickels.
Only ones I've got are in Albums.

War-Nickel-Roll

And this is the first page of my Dansco...

War-Nickel-Roll

The rolls are from my finds, my fathers finds, and a collection purchase. Obviously the Dansco was NOT from finds. LOL
