Just picked up this SLQ for what I thought was a steal, but now I am concerned about the obverse. It seems pitted? What do you think?

I don't see any pitting in your pics. The coin looks like it's got natural toning and depending on details it's at least VF 35 to XF 45. Does the coin have uniform color on both sides? The reverse looks brighter....may be due to the lighting(?).

I don't like the looks of it.
Can anyone whose more familiar with this series confirm if it's authentic?

The obverse is suspect, but the reverse planchet is like a mirror. I don't know if the previous owner cleaned the obverse and not the reverse or what. I thought I had a good one!!

Judging from the pics the coin looks authenic to me. I do not see any red flags that leads me to think otherwise.

As far as reverse being mirror-like and the obversed toned? That sounds like either one side has been cleaned or protected from the elements that caused the toning. Better pics would help. It might be a nice au/unc with just toning on the obverse hiding the brilliant underneath surfaces.

Either way, it looks like a nice type coin and I would not be ashamed to own it.

Did you get it at a good price and are YOU happy with it is really all that matters.
