Sorry...if you are talking about the different color marks on top of the USA design it is split plating. You should research Doubled Dies and read up a bit. Doubled Dies are the same height as the rest of the design and add thickness to the design. Nothing that flat can be a Doubled Die.

Swamp gas reflecting off mars isn't it? Ya know I would get excited over that coin.. If its not DDR its a magnitude 10.0 richeter scale SD/MD wow! Whats the year?

I have a guess...and it is really purely a guess on the rim. I would speculate that the die moved a little bit during the strike which made the thin edge near the rim...and the pressure that moved it also made the plating split. It makes sense to me but its still a guess

Depending on the location of the miss-hubbing of the die, a doubled die can be taller/wider. Depending on the class of doubled die they are.
