This is my first attempt to post. I collect error Eisenhower dollars. You can get them cheap. Once in a while you pick up a silver coin. There is real satisfaction in acquiring an error coin, knowing (maybe) it was in the hands of a professional collector, and they just placed it in a dump bucket. Comments? What errors are you referring to? Most of them are pretty hard to overlook and Ike errors tend to have a significant premium attached in relation to a similar error on a lower denomination coin.

boikemist6, yes, Ikes do have a higher value for a similar error strike than in a lower denomination coins. That is part of the interest. I look for & gather, Off center Toned Partial or total reedless Multi strikes Railroads Lamination errors CudsTilted partial collar errors Hoping my Avatar will some day be up. It is two well matched Tilted partial collar errors

biokemist6, May I please add, that when I can find a coin with more than one error, it is more collectible, or more desirable. I understand toning is questionable as an "error." But, on ebay when I sell a Railroad that happens to be toned, It seems to sell faster, and at more money.

Please forgive.

Agreed toning really isn't an error in any way, it does carry its own premium though when attractive.

Basbal21,
Question please,
Does anyone know why an Eisenhower will tone more on one side than the other? The reverse on my Bicentennial Type 2 are plentiful. All mostly out of 1 bag.
One more question please. Why does "young" Ikes tone so fast? They are not very old. Is it the Nickel?
Thanks.

If coins are left in a roll for a long time before opening, the outside coins on the roll will tone faster. But most of the time, just were the coins are facing the air. Sometimes if the coins are stored in heat they will tone on one side. Albums are probably the biggest cause of toning. If a coin is BU when you put them into one, then check back a few years later, they will be toned. this one was BU when I put it into a Dansco album. Here are a couple of dimes in a Whitman album. There are silver and subject to toning even when they are circulated:

Thanks coop,
The many toned ikes were discovered in a $1000 vault bag. The bag was surely "OLD", because it was so obviously drug around on a (vault?) floor. Might have been stored for decades. Who can say?

Then probably the ones on the outside edge of the bag are the toned ones.
