I have an obsession with error coins. I enjoy attempting to find out How errors happen. It is a lot of fun. One tid-bit of common sense and logic I employ is the fact that since the coin press goes so fast, there must be brothers to almost all error coins. Anyone having seen my 1976 Cap and coins the cap struck will understand that last statement. Here are the images of 3 coins. There is no doubt that they are from the same die set. The Die Deterioration of the rev. and the die crack (small) at the top of the "G" of DG, on the obverse prove that. My theory is this. There was a feed issue and a planchet was fed on top of the left side of the collar. Coin was struck, the planchet forced the collar away. The slight bending of the small unstruck portion of the obv of coin #1 seems to support this theory. The collar has now failed due to the impact and each consecutive strike moves farther off center. A side note to this. The stress placed on the obv. die seems to be taking a toll as the die crack at the G extends slightly with each strike. Love it.

That's a wonderful grouping Mike! How did they come about? Where and how were they found? In one roll or maybe in a box of nickels or even from different parts of the country etc

The 3 coins came from very different locations. SPP got me the first one in TO, I had the third one already, found the second one on ebay came from out west.

Wow! That's truly impressive. I can't imagine the amount of time put into assembling a set like that, but obviously it paid off.

Actually, I found you two of those coins. One from the first Coin Expo, and the middle one (scratched obverse) came from National Pride, a coin shop in Edmonton that I visited in May of 2010.

It will be pretty hard to scan that 1976 cap...
