So currently my pictures are just using either table lamps or whatever light I have available. What kinds of lighting can I get to help make identifying and picture taking easier? I'm not looking for anything pricey, probably under $20 USD.

Thanks ^^

I tried those janscos and I found them not suitable. It really depends on what camera and lenses you are using. My main light source is similar to this listing( I like it because its dimable and it produces much more light than 2 janscos:

Bold mine, for the important part. I use nothing but Jansjos, and have zero problems making them do everything I need for coin imaging over a few thousand images during the last couple of years. Austrokiwi's dislike of Jansjos, and his very effective use of a different solution, makes the point:

Your images are more an effect of the camera you're using, and how you're using it, than the lighting. Lighting only plays a critical role in the last (perhaps) 10% of total quality; the rest is your imaging hardware. You could present an acceptable image using candles with the right equipment.

So what camera are you using? Let's see if we can help you get the most from it.

I use 3-4 of these with 5000k, 100w equivalent CFL bulbs.

Jansjos have worked perfectly for me for years now. For some work at higher magnification I use a ringlight.
