Quote: The coin was coated with oil or some other substance in order to hide the corrosion. The acetone removed it and revealed the true coin. That was my immediate thought - most likely Deller's darkener, looks like it to me anyways. Quote: would blue ribbon remove the green corrsion and protect the surface if used sparingly? I still have about 8 bottles of the stuff. Ouch, been looking for a couple bottles of it for awhile now. I tossed out 6 bottles because I was moving, and was afraid they would break (about 10 years ago). Now it's gone forever, and look at this auction last week: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151224302947

What's funny I thought I had thrown all 8 bottles away 2 years ago when I went through a very heart breaking divorce. But God had plans for me to continue collecting and I found them. I bought them back in 1998 at a coin shop for $5 each. Never thought they would be valuable.

Ok, here are my before and after efforts using Verdicare. Before After I actually bought this very cheaply with the intention of flipping it and just thought i'd get rid of the gunk around the lettering by using acetone but obviously hadn't seen the verdigris which was revealed. Very pleased with the Verdicare results on this, its now flippable again rather than just an obviously corroding coin.
