Die crack is not_quite VAM-10's. As you know, die cracks are as unique as fingerprints and the match has to be prefect. What it is, is VAM-4:

The doubling on the 8-3 is a dead giveaway, the crack is a match and the neck clash over the wing is in the appropriate - quite different from "normal" - position. I have this one at probably 63.

Thanks Dave I posted this someplace else and said how many die clashes can you find and got a response that the person doesn't have time for my nonsense. Well I hope he reads this because the doctors give me 12 to 24 months. Yes I have cancer. And I would gladly give someone my time any time for anything. But I guess I'm not as important as the other guy. Please not looking for sympathy.Any way do you think or know with variety collectors does all those extra die marks pole in the head etc add or subtract from the value. Thanks.

Mikey, I am very sorry to hear about your illness and I hope you can overcome it even though they gave you the short timeline. Get a special cancer doctor to look you over. There are many hospitals that do not have the same treatments, sometimes it takes going to other states for better treatments.

We are hear to do nothing but help others on this site and we would never treat anyone with disrespect.

Your coin does appear to be a VAM 4 and is a very interesting variety. When you do an attribution forget about die cracks at first until you have looked at date position, doubling of the date and letters, die clashes and the position of the clash marks, etc.. before trying to match up the die cracks because many dies have cracks in similar position the same thing happens with clash marks but that is why I put them at the back of the list. There are other things to look for like die gouges, die polishing lines, and other diagnostics on many of the pages to help make sure you have identified the VAM correctly.

Please don't be afraid to ask questions here. We will help you the best we can.

Thanks kris and I apologize . This is not the place for this either. I get a little over sensitive from the meds and I have a small chance to beat it. It started as the most curable hpv born virus type which spread to my hip. My Dr 40 years in the business said never seen it happen and to quote him " we'll Mike you may out live us all because quite frankly I'm surprised I didn't kill you with the chemo mixture I gave you." Anyway I've forgotten about the prior incident already because I vowed to only focus on positive things. Anyway I have a lot of experience just never bothered with the one offs I guess you call them and was trying to decide what price to put on a coin like this.. I don't know anyone who collects vams.

This one is probably worth $75-$100 but it might take some time to find a buyer at those prices. If it were put on ebay auction it could bring anywhere from $40 to $75 in my opinion and it just takes 2 interested buyers.

By the way, VAMs are not 1 off's, a VAM is a pair of dies that have attributes that are cataloged as VAMs. So there could be hundreds or thousands of each VAM if not more or less in some cases. http://www.vamworld.com has all the info you need to learn about them and pricing info is available at the bottom of the pages in some cases. If you have never attributed a VAM before then I would read this http://www.vamworld.com/Attribution+101 If there is any of it that is hard to understand just skip by it and keep reading. The date position chart explains how to tell if you have a near, normal or far date. There is also information about clashing and lots of other good info on that page. It takes a long time to learn it all but most can attribute a coin just from learning the basics like date position, clashing, doubled dies, etc..

So sorry to hear of your illness Mikey, keep the faith fellow collector, the cancer hasn't beat you yet, you are still posting and living life!

I've been looking for a VAM 10 for over a decade now, almost bought one on ebay last month that went pretty darn cheap (for me anyways) It was in a PCGS AU holder and was hammered at around $250.00. It's one of the really tough ones to find out of the TOP100 VAMS for sure. I've found most of them except that one and an 1878-P7/8TF VAM44, 1888-O V1B Scarface, and the 1887-P V1A Donkey Tail.
