I found this buffalo in a group of coins that I bought from an older woman who said they were her husbands. None were in cases just all loose in a bucket and I came across this 1937-D 3 legged buffalo. I got really excited but some dealers have told me they think it is a cleaned coin and not very valuable. I have an offer for $2500- should I sell it?

Wow Awesome Find!

We would need to see some more detailed pics to see first if it's authentic and second to judge what the grade might be

There are counterfeits of these that exist so makeing sure that it's not a fake is a Very smart thing to do before selling it.

That is a dealer trying to rip you off

If it is authentic, even a cleaned 3 leg buffalo is worth hundreds of dollars. I would recommend having it authenticated before you sell it to resolve any possible accusations of fraud should it be counterfeit.

I agree with biokemist, but that's one heck of a nice 3 legged buffalo.
Rest in Peace

The pictures look funny to me. The color seems strange. Maybe its just the holder the coin is apparently in. At any rate $2500.00 is Mint State money. We really need better pictures to make a grade and cleaned or not call. It is hard to tell if it has been altered. Send it in to a top TPG, PCGS, NGS ANACS or ICG and let the pros decide. It will be well worth it, cleaned or not. Mike By the way, welcome to the Forum!

I am going to send it into pcgs. What is the best service anyone know? I just joined as a member so I can submit my coins myself. They allow 8 free with a platinum membership so I will just include it with coins under 3k.

PCGS is the best service, or rather the service that will get you the most money.

For that Buf I would choose ANACS. ANACS will holder this and note it's details on the slab. If it comes back in a problem free holder I would then cross it over to PCGS.
Rest in Peace

I agree with Benji. I would start out with ANACS so at least you know what you have instead of a body bag! Mike

On the other hand: You have not invested much into it so, you can afford to submit as many times as you need to get it holdered @ PCGS. Either way you'll come out on top.

According to the 2007 RedBook retail for a 2007 in MS60 is $2500. If it's been rattling around in a bucket with a bunch of others it probably came out of circulation, which means it's probably AU or less. I'd be very tempted to take the $2500 & run, it won't sell for anywhere near that if it comes back as cleaned or less than MS60.
