A classic Fine 12 and a nice coin. Some hairlines visible on obverse (?).

1822 is a scarce year in the CBQ series, scarcer I believe than the 1815.

Nice coin overall.

I'm going to stick this and a few more cleaned coins in an old wooden cigar box for a while and see what happens.

I'm not sold on the cleaning. I see what may be causing people to say this, but I feel if it has been cleaned, it may be deemed market acceptable and not warrant a details grade at a TPG. I've seen some dogs in PCGS holders over the years. This is a solid F-12 and I'm sure you already know, it is a B-1. Only two types for this year. Still looking for a B-2 for my collection. Nice coin!

I dug out some slabs and found this F-12 B-1similar to yours. I believe yours is a touch stronger. Maybe not enough to make 15, but stronger in the obverse for sure. Thought you might be interested in seeing a twin sister of yours!

Nice twin! I love these old quarters.

I'm not sure it's been cleaned but it could use a bit of mellowing either way.

Thanks for the pics.

By coincidence, I also have one, and it is also graded Fine 12. (NGC).
It is very similar to yours (actually to both of yours!)

That is very interesting jpbone, I did not know that there are 2 die varieties for the 1822 CBQ. The other must be pretty scarce.

And it's triplets! GERMANICVS, yes, the other is very scarce. My book says R-5 but it's not the newest book. I've never seen one in person, but they do show up on ebay from time to time. The large sized CBQs are my favorite US coin. I think it's the thrill of the chase. You can go into coin shop after coin shop asking if they have a single example, and at least 95% of the time they don't (at least where I am located). Then, of the 5% of the times they do have one, they look like they came from the garbage disposal. Days I find nice CBQs and bring it home are gooood days!
