I used to get a Kennedy half dollar for allowance every week and I kept a lot of them. Dad was a big Kennedy fan so that got it started. Today while looking at some recent KHDs I got to find that special one I found a 1990 KHD in which the 1 is missing, the IN is missing from IN GOD as well as the ST from TRUST, also the L from LIBERTY is missing or very faint as is the Y and the B and I are extremely fat.
On the Obverse side all is normal.
Anyone ever seen or heard of this before? I compared it to another 1990 I have and it is very different. Unless a person held it face up and rubbed the rim for a very long time I do not know how it would occur and I do not think that would fatten the B and I in LIBERTY. ?

Any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks.

to the Forum!!

Your Kennedy half sounds like an incomplete strike, or maybe a greased-filled die. Either way, a pretty cool error. Can you post pictures?

(Also you may get more responses if you post this question on the CCF US Modern Coins Forum versus the US Classic Coins one...)

As so many say, post or try to post a photo. And I hope you kept as many as possible of those. I remember way, way back when my Dad used to give me my allowance in Silver Dollars. What a dummy I was. I spent almost all of them as just money. Of course that was so long ago, every one used them for money.

Welcome!

That sounds like a grease-filled die error, which is one of the more common errors in modern coins. Depending on how sharp the rest of the strike is and how faint the "missing" parts are, it's probably worth around $1-10 to a collector of error coins. I would most certainly recommend keeping it for your own collection!

Could it be a casino slot machine coin?

It may be a slot coin since it came from the Denver mint although San Francisco is as likely. Anyone ever seen wear marks like that associated with a casino coin?
