Was looking for a Trade dollar for my 7070 when I ran across this 1876-S. But upon further inspection... Am I missing something?

What a great start to your error collection!

Sadly, I don't think it's a rare error.

This particular "CC" was minted in San Fran. What? It could happen.

Youre not someone just messed up the label when they printed it. When a companies graded over 25 million coins it happens from time to time.

Question is, should I leave it in the slab?... Do you all think it would be seen as a cool novelty if I decide to sell it in the future?

I would get it correctly slabbed. Carson City minted only a tenth of the Trade dollars in 1876 that SF did. I think that many people would trust NGC when you go to sell it and would think that you altered it to make it a CC and NGC caught you.

I have seen people in the past try to sell slab mistakes, at auction, for a hefty premium, without much luck, except to the truly gullible.

IMHO that is valid argument in favor of having it slabbed correctly...just pick it up for 1876-S pricing so you can call it a win.
Rest in Peace
