I bought a batch of 6000 pennies, a drop jar from a family for years. My scale is not too acurate, the copper 90 came in on it at 2 gms and change lol, the other one did not even register. Is it aluminum perhaps, I read that the U.S. mint did testing of aluminum cents at some point. At a loss here and looking for the pro's help. Thank you in advance. Jon.

Unfortunately it looks like zinc rot.

Looks like someone altered it with adding zinc to the coin. You can still see the bubbles under the plating, so it was plated. I've seen the video of how to do this on youtube. I don't have the link. If it were an un-plated planchet, the surface would be smooth.

Coop, would that cause internal and external edge ridging of the reverse lettering, as such with this coin?

a few more pics, the overall dimension of it is, 20cms or abouts 7/8". All of the rim edge is smooth, so definitely not zinc rot making it larger, and definitely larger than a 1990 minted cent, so perhaps, wrong metal, wrong planchet?

Note on the letters above TES on STATES. You can see the zinc addition on top of the split plating in that area.
