Hello everyone,

I've decided to buy some smaller gold pieces, and I thought this would be an interesting one to own. What is the purity here? I realize this isn't an investment type, but I'm curious. Thanks

One of the most interesting ways of buying lower priced gold coins! I have two.
My advice is to study the series very carefully first, so that that you understand the sometimes very minor differences between the various issues. There can be major price differences between them.

I have not seen much written about fakes in this series; perhaps the Japanese are more honest than the rest of us. That is the case in other endeavours of life.

I don't think you should just look at the gold content - they can be as low as 30 - 50%. I don't remember the exact ratio. However the earlier issues issued from 1600s are scarcer and are very expensive. A fair number were removed from the country and melted down due to the high gold content.

Some are as low as 209 au /791 silver which is just over 20%
P.S. most weight 5.62 grams or there about,so that's just over 1gr of gold

My source says these are 29.8% gold and 70.2% silver.

I like these coins but they sell at a significant premium to their precious metal content.
If you are interested in adding one to your collection, go for it. Just don't think you're getting a good deal on gold that everyone else is overlooking.

I see these sell on ebay in the $60-80 range so at first glance the link you provided seems to be an ok deal.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I think I'll add one to my collection. I do realize that the metal value is far less than the price, I just want a bit of gold for the "cool factor".
