Has anybody ever seen one of these? It's the size of half dollar and appears to be gold or gold plated. I've looked all over the Internet and can't seem to find out anything about it. Download Attachment: 2000 a coin.jpg25.82 KB

Actually it belongs to a neighbor. He said he picked it up someplace and wanted to know if I could find out anything about it.

Huh- that's really different! Never seen one of those before. Something tells me that one of the private mints made it, and it may be part of a set, but I'll be darned if I can find anything else out about it! It's cool though! Rachel [:p]

Hi! I spent two hours searching Google and could not find a coin/token/medal that was exactly like it. The creation of Adam image was used on several countries coims and commeratives for the millienium but I could find none that matched that one exactly. I would like to know its composition if possible. It was made in 1999 in preparation for 2000. I really like the design. Come on Richard and others! Nail this one. Perhaps Rachel has the answer, a private small minting. So far we have a 100% batting average on solving these problems.. HHHEEELLLPPP!!!!! Mike

Hi, Thanks for the information so far. I spent a lot of time on the net also and got skunked. I just weighed it on a postal scale and since it's exactly the same size a a half dollar I weighed a 1988 Kennedy too. The half weighed 12 grams and the medal weighed 14 grams. The scan is misleading, the entire coin is gold colored, all the black spaces that appear in the scan are just reflected light. As far as composition, I have no idea. It looks like gold or gold plate.

This might be a first- I've never seen this group be stumped trying to identify something before. You know what will happen don't you- someone will stumble on something that identifies this coin months from now when we've all given up! Rachel [:p]

To me look like some type of religious celebration--what I can't make out is what it says on the coin? Has Adam & Eve reaching for each other-- The sentiniam chapel? Hard to read from the coin if I am spelling it right. Also looks like this "celebration" happened in 1999--It is not a coin, so I would classify it as some type of religious token of some sort--I doubt it is gold, but could be gold plated--Only way to see if it pure gold is to cut it in half that will tell ya.. --Anyway it is not a USA coin, nor is it spendable--It might buy you a cup of coffe, or perhaps a beer---

Cisco, The writing on the reverse side of the coin reads THE GOLDEN MELLENIUM WORLD ANNUAL CELEBRATION. On the left half of the coin it says THE CREATION OF ADAM and on the right half it says THE SIXTINIAN CHAPEL. The date on the left half is 2000 and the date on the right half is 1999. The picture, I believe is from a frescoe painted on the dome of the Sistine Chapel, in Italy, depicting the creation of Adam.
