Man Made error...which is sad, that was a pretty nice coin overall. Most of the 27S I see are just ugly!

Looks like post-mint damage to me.

It turned a nice collectable coin into a cull. Most of the Standing Liberty quarters have the date worn off, this one doesn't. It probably wasn't deliberate. Things happen to coin in circulation.
