The prices of the Spring Canopy coin have dropped drastically recently. They are now in the range of $100 to $110. This one sold for $99: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-CANADA...em43c5bcceadThis coin got rave reviews and sold for more than $200 at one point. People stocked up on them in hopes of price appreciation. One year later they are practically at list price. At this price, people are selling them for losses after ebay fees. If you look back on 2013 coins, very few of the issues have increase in value. The only series that was successful is the Superman series. Even at 7500 issued, the market cannot absorb all the coins. What does say about the Mint's releases. Too high a mintage and too many coins released?

I'll give you my 2 cents. If you are buying to make a quick buck, sell when the market is on fire. If you are buying for purely a hobby, don't look at market conditions unless you are buying the coin to build your collection.

The Superman coins - this is the case, when in the item interested not only NCLT collectors. Quote: Even at 7500 issued, the market cannot absorb all the coins. What does say about the Mint's releases. Too high a mintage and too many coins released? And the Spring maple Canopy - what exactly special about it to be resold with huge premium? This is just very nice coin, as many others. Again and again we have situation with the "hoarding and reselling". Additional factor might be - the second Canopy coin wasn't popular at all. But it the same as for example with "Duck set" or "Autumn Bliss": Initial hoard and feel of shortage caused high prices at the beginning on the secondary market..... and later everything cooled down.

Well MoneyPenney I'm not really surprised. I have felt for quite awhile that there are just too many RCM coins chasing too few customers. Buying NCLT coins is a hobby, not an investment. Folks should buy coins they like for personal enjoyment. Speculators (aka flippers) are free to take their chances, but they shouldn't whine it they can't make any money. By the way, does anyone know when is the third coin in this series coming out? Will it be the Winter or Summer Maple canopy? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Simply the RCM killed this series with a terrible second coin.

Quote: This coin got rave reviews and sold for more than $200 at one point. Really? Who's the idiot that willing to pay that much for that coin? I remembered people complaining that they couldn't sell it pass $120. I sold most of these at $110-$120 locally... What killed this series was the ugly fall Canopy. when folks purchased the spring Canopy, they envisioned that the fall canopy would be full of red/yellow leafs.. not just two ugly leafs

Yeah the second coin just couldn't live up to the first. But hot or not I still like the coin a lot, It was one of my favorites for the year. As for the autumn bliss coin. I think I wrote about it previously as well. I tried to order it from CP and was told it was sold out and I wouldn't be getting one for sure. I didn't attempt to track it down on ebay or locally because It wasn't a must have coin for me. What happens a few months later when the hype dies? There's a mystery package at my door step with the coin in it. I guess over sold / sold out everywhere means something else nowadays.

I don't think it's just a matter of too many coins being issued (though it's definitely part of the problem), I think it's also the fact that the RCM issues far too many "novelty" coins â€" colourized, bejeweled, holographic, etc. A major issue with such pieces is that it generally doesn't take too long for the novelty about them to wear off and folks go looking for the next "hot" thing. Sometimes the next thing is another coin, sometimes it's something else entirely. So, long-term interest in most NCLT coins never develops and the secondary market suffers. I've never believed that these types of coins bring a large number of long-term collectors into the hobby. They do draw in short-term collectors and those looking to turn coins for a quick profit, but IMO they do little to keep most folks engaged for the long haul. I believe significant secondary market price drops on just about all NCLT pieces is a reality that will be with us for the foreseeable future.

iv noticed this also. I have 1 extra left I bought to sell. Will just wait until the next one or the one after that is released. If the new ones are nice people will want the first one....then it will die down again.

yea,,, its clear that flipping coins is great for flippers. Long term is extremely dicing and its probably better to wait on the more popular coins after the hype fizzles, then you can pick them up. In addition, the RCM is making way to mannnny coins. But its not because there isn't demand,,, there is demand, thats why flippers are able to flip... but then too, it might be that they have so much product coming out that the attention spans are too short for one product a time.

I don't really have an issue with the amount of variety. The issue is mintages. Some of the coins should be brought down to 2500 (or even less) and certainly not over 5000. It would certainly make the hobby more interesting and the market much more competitive. I'm guessing though at 2500 it might be difficult to cover off production costs. An FYI from a retail standpoint (at least from my experience) most new RCM products are bought as gifts and by people who truly like the designs and not as investment.

How can one say the NCLT are an investment when in 2013, one series and maybe 2 or 3 other coins held value while the other 200 or more issues can be purchased at discounts. Buy these coins for themes or design only, the RCM has overproduced and overpriced their coins
