I assume you mean by spooning.
A clad quarter is a lot harder than a silver quarter.
I suspect a LOT of patience will be required.

4 hours? I don't know if that'd be adequate if you were working on a 1oz .999 silver round. A clad coin may take a lot longer than that.

Ah, I've looked up the method, and it looks like I already own a coin that's well on its way to becoming a ring...

1970 is a difficult date to find... but this coin is solid nickel and it would probably wear down the spoon rather than the coin if I tried to continue this progress! More likely it was caught in a dryer.

Don't try this at HOME! but... I was thinking firearms... just shoot a hole through it

from 1968-1986, I'm only missing two dates on Canadian quarters, 1970 and 1983... think I'd want something better than that for a hole filler thou.

The more you work, the more you harden. In the end it can become brittle and crack. Take time to anneal.

Out of curiosity were you starting with a large drill bit, or a small one?

I just found a quarter with a small hole drilled in the e of LIBERTY, to put on a chain I guess, it's only about 2.5 mm in diameter, sorry no pics, but it's not really that impressive, but it is possible

The spoon method is tedious even with a silver coin.

Easiest method involves drilling a hole first, and slipping coin onto a tapered cone like the jewelers use, then tapping down with a hardened cylinder of sorts, basically turning the coin inside out.
