Hello friends here. I have a question. Saw quite a few graded coins on ebay. They are enclosed inside 'slabs'. Do you take them out or otherwise how do you play with them?

I do not see any significant in the grading of modern NCLT. When I buy graded one (rarely) I just broke the plastic and put the coin in Air-tite capsule.

It depends which's the reason you buy the coins. Investment? Hobby? Gift? Maybe if you provide us the link we can comment further.

Why would you pay extra for a graded coin and then crack it out.

But here the best example: the latest Fractional set - you will not find the single coins not graded. So, need to buy the graded one. But I do not care, if it mentioned on the slab "MS-70" or "MS-69" - it looks the same, and I do not need this plastic slab....

I agree with you silveroid. I don't see the point in grading NCLT coins. It's just a gimmick to artificially raise the prices of already overpriced coins.

I buy NGC and PCGS storage boxes and let them sit in there so they can be in ascending order.

I've just begun to buy slabbed coins. At first I was against it. Now I've come to see two benefits for modern Nclt coins, 1. They are in a sealed protective environment unlike a possibly leaky capsule, 2. It proves my coins are not Chinese counterfeits, and yes I know slabs are also being counterfeited. These are the reasons I've added slabs to my collection. I do handle and play with my slabs. I find 1 downside, being I miss having the COA to read the coins story, I really enjoy those.

I was very amused to see people taking the BoC Gold coins, and submitting them to the 'slabbers' for grading. Coming from the mint with a holographic seal already sealing them in was good enough for me - with two possible grades "hand selected" or "Premium hand selected". I just felt it was an unnecessary added expense to an already expensive coin.

I also do like original RCM packaging of them, and will not send mine to be graded. But here, the option to grade these coins seems to me very reasonable - cause they are minted for circulation, and probably were in circulation, so the professional grading will be more exact and common for numismatic world.
