Hi All, I have been tossing nickels in cans for a long time, I have zero idea what to look for, they are separated by year in rolls,is there any value to rolls of nickels by year ? 1950-60-70 and 80
Thanks in advance

You have come to the right place.

Jefferson nickel Mintage Fun Facts https://goccf.com/t/170876

Pre 1960 can be rather sought after, some 1942 and all 1943, '44, '45 are 35% silver. Check out the link in my signature for info on them.

Having them in rolls by decade is not really desirable get a few folders or albums and make some sets maybe. anything Post 1960 is usually not worth much either

With them being made of copper and nickel they are not worth much from a melt value stand point and unless they are graded by a professional grader they are not worth much over face value either.

Depending on what you want to do, I'd suggest cherry pick the best and send the rest back to the bank then get more to search through.

Welcome to the CCF PastorMike :-)

The 1950-D (the D being on the reverse or back of the coin, right of the Monticello), is the key date coin to the series. Also, pick yourself up a 10X Loupe magnifier and look for the scarce 1954 S/D and 1955 D/S mintmarks. Don't be afraid to take pictures and post them here. We are here to help you!

Also be sure to look for Henning nickels as those are really the most prized nickels even though they are counterfeits. I know 39 and 44 can be Hennings but I think there is a few other years as well.
