no EVIIIR coins were minted with his effigy. The only coins minted during his 10-month reign bore his name, but no image. You'll note that this is underweight for a Crown, so it's not silver. There is more than one variety of these fantasy pieces - I have seen one with a kangaroo-reverse.

Could be a Chinese fake ... after multiple XRF and SEM/EDS analysis on ~50 or so pieces and seeing german silver (Cu/Zn/Ni) and Fe/Ni types as the common alloy types it gives the coins a DULL look like this piece ... its underweight status adds to this equation ... but some Chinese fakes add lead to bring to normal regal weight status ... check surface finish as Dull or not, cast bubbles under high magnification and low weight. In hand try a magnet and look at the edge ... but once you see a 2 year old edge ... its too late ... IS IT NOT? <BG>.

I recently acquired this silver crown-sized coin in an auction lot. It is about one and a half times the thickness of a normal sterling crown and weighs one and a half times the normal weight. Any thoughts or opinions of value to collectors would be welcome. It is in proof/BU condition and has a reeded/milled edge.

I have one of these that was given to me by a family member some years ago - never did have the heart to tell them it was a fantasy piece and not some sort of priceless pattern lol Norm

There are at least a dozen or so types of these fantasies all over the net, Edward VII "pattern proofs", for the UK, Australia, Cyprus, Hong Kong, etc., quite a bit of the Empire. They are all fakes, fantasies, never existed and are often touted as rare patterns, proofs, you know the drill. Value is about nil, or melt, whichever is greater. They are in silver, copper, bronze, aluminum, and brass.
