I was cruising ebay for an 1866 to go in my dads old Whitman book. Not the push in folder, but the Dansco style album. I am taking a leisurely approach to finishing it off. Now and then cruise to fill a hole. So anyway.

I was looking at auctions about to end to try and snag a decent coin for a good price and I came across this one. It looks like it could be the over date, but I am not sure. It is still a solid looking coin and I think I got a good pick up at 51 bucks. Opinions?

It looks like you did much better than fill a hole. That looks like a quite respectable 1866 RPD at a bargain price. Well done!

I missed this one--but probably wouldn't have bid on it anyway.
Looks like a Snow-2, so $51 is a good price even if it grades more G4-6.

DV, I know the Snowden numbers are similar to the Overton numbers for the, but I do not have that book to reference. I take it that when you say it is a Snow2 you mean it is indeed the overdate.

Yes--Rick Snow has created a reference of repunched dates, overdates, and other varieties. If you follow this link, you can compare your coin to photographs of the Snow-2.

If you want a nice very high graded one, I believe this to be the S-2 variety as well.

Nice even wear on a G4, and the RPD is still very prominent.
