This is a combination of the album and environmental factors such as humidity, temperature, and air movement. I keep all of my albums in ziplock bags inside a plastic storage tub with a desiccant stored with it. Even then, toning can occur. Some of the fine folks here should have some more suggestions.
BTW, nice set!

Not sure if its from the Dansco but AlbumAcc has nailed about all the possibilities. Quote: I keep all of my albums in ziplock bags

I don't think it's possible to avoid all toning unless your coins are slabbed or kept completely dry.
Also, your last six 2009 cents are in the wrong order. The one with the capitol under construction is the last in the series.

I know you all like pictures. Yes, Yes we do. Very nice! Quote: environmental factors Yes. How and where you store your albums is important.

I've heard others say similar problems with all different Albums. I keep all my coins in Whitman Classic Albums and all are in Zip Lock Plastic bags. I've never had a coin turn, tone, tarnish, corrode or anything, EVER. Do you keep those in a place where there is a lot of humidity?

Quote: Do you keep those in a place where there is a lot of humidity? Not particularly humid, no. They're stored in my library with several other dansco albums. I checked and the coins in the other albums look relatively unchanged. The only thing that comes to mind is that I bought this album used, do you think it might have soaked up any moisture from improper storage while in the original owner's possession? Haha, I honestly didn't know they were released in any particular order.

I ruined many coins in their push in type albums. They are definitely NOT the best way to store a collection. Coin storage methods have been discussed in depth on CCF so I won't re hash all that, But if you are serious about your collections get your coins out of those horrors

I didn't even notice that your collection is in Folders, not Albums. Does appear as Albums with the slides removed. IF in fact those are Folders, not Albums, that is for sure your problem. Every time anyone opens a Folder, all the coins are exposed to the air, your breath, sneezing, coughing and lots of just stuff. As already noted, move everything into Albums.

That is NOT a folder. It is an album and perfectly fine for storing the coins.
I have my Danscos on a shelf in my living room and have not had an issue. the Dansco albums are inert, so any toning of the coins is not related tot he album. I would say it is more likely that prior to getting into that album they were exposed to something that has now tarnished them. It happens. I have seen fingerprints appear on coins many months after I placed them in a 2x2. Having handled them with gloves, I know they were NOT mine.
Regardless, that is a nice set! Good job!

Most definitely Dansco albums. Quote: The only thing that comes to mind is that I bought this album used, do you think it might have soaked up any moisture from improper storage while in the original owner's possession? Moisture? Probably not. I think you would have noticed if it were damp enough to be a problem. However, I wonder what sort of pollution it may have soaked up in its previous environment.

Don't that happen when you touch the coins? Some of my cents turned that way because I touched them.
