I'm new to collecting coins. I came across this nickel the other day and it looked a little off to me. I have heard about error coins, but have found one or even seen one (at least not in person). It looks like this coin wasn't struck straight. If you look at the motto on the left it looks like the letters are slightly cut off and rail/rim at the top, above Jefferson's head, looks like it's doubled. Is this an error coin of some sort or have I just been looking at too many coins and am losing my mind?!?!

This is pretty common to find and might add a few cents. If the strike was like 10% off or higher they can be worth 5 or more dollars.

to ccf!!

It is a MAD coin. So close to being a premium, but not there. Here is what a premium coin would look like.

Mojo, Coop is correct it is a MAD.
A broad struck is

Quote:
Broadstrike
Coin struck without a collar, thus when the coin is struck the metal is allowed to expand and increase in diameter. May be centered or uncentered, but must not have any missing lettering or design detail.
