Hey all, I somehow aqquired over the years a nice 1967 Kennedy half dollar, Now I know all the Half dollars got changed to 40% silver in 1965, But.... I've heard that some were made full silver still, now I cant get a source but apparently if the coin has no copper colour on the edge then it is %90? Ill get a picture up soon. Thanks

Your coin is 40% silver. All half dollars from 1965 and 1970 are 40%. Anything before 1965 is 90%.

the only way it could be 90% would be if an old 1964 planchet got thrown in by accident

You will not see a bright copper band on the edge like you would on a cupronickel clad coin. The 40% silver clad coinage had outer layers of 80/20 Ag-Cu with a core of 20/80 Ag-Cu so the core will typically have a darker greyish appearance.

Wrong-planchet errors are known for various issues but I would think a 1965 Kennedy might have a chance of being struck on a 90% planchet. A 1967, certainly not.

Best Regards,

George
