I'd say VG+ for the 31 and VF for the 42. Interesting 42, nice die cracks in the bottom of the reverse - love the war year coinage. Do the strong denticles at the bottom of both sides and weak at the top indicate mis-set dies or is this common wear ?

1931 looks to be a VF12. The 1942, I have to give it a F12 based on it's overall condition.
