Once again I come across another high graded coin with a Pedigree on it... Some say the name means nothing well I think it does..... would you grade this AU 53 and what if you sent it in what grade would you have gotten ..To me its at best EF maybe a 45 if lots of luster... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canada-1917...em3f31e40250

I have a coin which passed through Heritage Auction House and has a name. I received information about this collector from our members. I find it interesting but not important to the primary question: "What does the coin look like?" For the coin must be judged for what it is and NOT by who owned it. Other than this I cannot offer a grade opinion.

We all know PCGS and NGC overgrades circulated Canadian coins when compared to ICCS
This grade doesn't surprise me at all, although I agree with all, that this coin is just an ef.

Maybe they had a liquid lunch that day? No point in an offensive offer. Although a nice coin, I would pass.

EF45...change to EF-40 because of the reverse wear on the "50 Cents"...maybe even a bit lower.

Steve, the ware on 50 cents is just from the strike and not actual ware but still, good eye .

Yes, dollarman, you're right, my mistake. Just having the "t" and "0" weak makes the reverse look poor. I think it's very distracting. Looks like a die crack as well to the top of the king's crown.

Yes it is detracting to be honest and probably wouldn't help the grade, but imagine if the 0 was completely struck through! Biggest nickel ever lol.

Bad Bad photo----Scuffed plastic in the extreme, especially over the crown.Bad lighting, bad resolution bad presentation. A good look gives it an AU53 ---the name is $200 pedigree to me! Wow- I am so much of an optimist! Or gullible!

XF 40 for me, and it looks like it was clean long ago and now has a slight oxidization on it. Sure not one that appeals to me.
